Grandparents Exhibit Featured in Hartford Courant

A few months ago we hosted a special gallery event at the studio called "Our Family Heritage:  Our Grandparents".  Recently we loaned the portraits to a special place in town that takes good care of many of the town's grandparents, the Virginia Connolly Residence.

Well, today I just received this article that appeared in Sunday's iTowns section of the Hartford Courant.  Here's the link to the article.

See the "reprint" from Sunday's paper below.

Residents of the Virginia Connolly Residence in Simsbury are enjoying the masterful photography of Matthew J. Wagner as they dine. Upon a recent visit, Matt noticed that although the building had recently undergone a major renovation, the walls were greatly in need of some artwork. He generously offered to rotate some of his wonderful portraits in the common dining area.

The first works were titled "Winter Wonderland," and featured children playing in the snow. The photographs were immensely enjoyed by the residents, most of whom have grandchildren, or great-grandchildren, of similar ages. The current works are "Our Family Heritage: Our Grandparents" which are beautiful portraits of those who mean so much in our lives and whose acquired wisdom and knowledge are priceless.

"One of the primary services provided 365 days a year for our residents is a main meal served at noon in our dining room by waitstaff," said Joe Loewy, executive director of the Simsbury Housing Authority. "This artwork has upgraded the look and feel of our dining room. The many compliments that we have received from residents and their families tell us that we have, without a doubt, enhanced the dining experience."

The Virginia Connolly Residence is a 40-unit congregate and assisted-living facility, committed to providing a safe, caring environment, allowing residents to maintain and prolong their independent living status. The facility is overseen by the non-profit Simsbury Housing Authority, which also manages the Dr. Owen L. Murphy Apartments, consisting of 70 garden-style units for seniors or persons with disabilities. Both properties are located at 1600 Hopmeadow St. in Simsbury.
